Doll Doll Dolly Market Research!

Where do I begin? I guess I will start by saying my last business idea wasn't for me and I decided to put that on hold. I still want to achieve all that I had planned but unfortunately it would be far too demanding. I set out a few years ago to start an accessories label, but for some crazy creative reason I got sidetracked and started doing other things. I guess I am a little bit of a crazy creative scientist, always experimenting with new things.

Annnnnywayyyy, I wrote in my last post of my intentions for Doll Doll Dolly and I have been working on a business plan this week. I hate being restricted to academic boring work, but if you want to succeed it has to be done! I just want to ask a few questions to my readers to help me through my market research. I find this pretty hard going as I prefer to be creative. If you wouldn't mind taking ten minutes out of you day to help me, I would be extremely grateful.

When buying something for a special occasion would you rather buy something handmade? If so would you pay a little extra for something unique?

Your wedding is one of the biggest days of you life! Would this be an occasion where you would seek out something individual? Would you again pay extra?

Would you prefer to wear something in you hair that you could wear after your wedding? Or would you like to wear a traditional veil?

Are you concerned with trends or do you like classic design?

Would you look for something on the high street or on an online market like Etsy?

Do you like to support local business instead of large companies?

When buying something for a special occasion what kind of item do you go for?

Thank you for reading.

  1. When buying something for a special occasion would you rather buy something handmade? If so would you pay a little extra for something unique? I'd definitely buy handmade as it would be such a unique gift and not something generic. Price-wise... I'm on a REALLY tight budget, so I couldn't go too high in terms of price, but would be prepared to pay a bit more as it's a one-off.

Your wedding is one of the biggest days of you life! Would this be an occasion where you would seek out something individual? Would you again pay extra? Absolutely YES to individuality! No meringues for me! ;) Again - got the tight budget to think about, but would be happy to pay a little bit extra.

Would you prefer to wear something in you hair that you could wear after your wedding? Or would you like to wear a traditional veil?
Yuck to the veil. Yay to something unique and quirky, and would definitely want it to be re-wearable after the event.

Are you concerned with trends or do you like classic design? Classic design!

Would you look for something on the high street or on an online market like Etsy? I am a complete Etsy addict, but it's also nice to try things on so a mix of both is ideal.

Do you like to support local business instead of large companies? Local all the way!!

When buying something for a special occasion what kind of item do you go for? Something really quirky and re-wearable, like jewellery generally.

    Hope this helps! xx

I love unique even if it's using something that is normally used for another purpose. I would pay more to express myself that way.

I did to both for my dress and I made my hair accessory myself.

I like something that could be used again or used with a veil for the day then for special occasions

Are you concerned with trends or do you like classic design?
I'm more of a classic design type. Something that costs a fair bit needs to be something that lasts me more than a season or could be passed on to family in the case of wedding attire

Would you look for something on the high street or on an online market like Etsy?
To be honest I look at both and either see something perfect or see something that could be perfect without too much more outlay/effort

Do you like to support local business instead of large companies?
Wherever possible I prefer to support small businesses, unfortunately big companies often do similar for less :( but then they loose a lot of the spirit and identity

When buying something for a special occasion what kind of item do you go for?
Something that can work in many settings like a nice ring, earrings or even a cute hair clip

Look forward to hearing more about your venture

I would deffo want something handmade, i like having something unique, it sparks convosation and makes you feel a lot less 'part of the crowd'

Your wedding day is such a special day, everyone is looking at you and there are THOUSANDS of pictures being taken, you want little things that set your wedding apart and with the growth of wedding blogs you also want interesting people to brag about discovering

Would you prefer to wear something in you hair that you could wear after your wedding? Or would you like to wear a traditional veil?
i think id like something to wear and then treasure after, maybe put in a box frame or put in a wedding keepsake box

Are you concerned with trends or do you like classic design?
both are great, modern twists on classics is a must for me, being able to 'update' classics with your own tastes

Would you look for something on the high street or on an online market like Etsy?
if i was looking for something had made and special i would go straight to etsy or folksy

Do you like to support local business instead of large companies?
given the choice i would always prefer to give support to local people

When buying something for a special occasion what kind of item do you go for?

  4. When buying something for a special occasion would you rather buy something handmade? If so would you pay a little extra for something unique?

--- I would now rather pay a little more and get something handmade. I don't treat myself often, so when I do I can spend a little more on something handcrafted.

Your wedding is one of the biggest days of you life! Would this be an occasion where you would seek out something individual? Would you again pay extra?

-- My wedding was done on rather a tight budget, so I did search for as unique as possible on the high street rather than the traditional big dress etc.

Would you prefer to wear something in you hair that you could wear after your wedding? Or would you like to wear a traditional veil?

-- I wore pretty hair clips with my hair pinned up. I don't like veils. It would have been nice to have worn something in my hair in the evening but I didn't think of it.

Are you concerned with trends or do you like classic design?

-- I like classic designs for dresses. I could go a bit qwirky-er for accessories.

Would you look for something on the high street or on an online market like Etsy?

-- now I know about Etsy I would look in both places. I dind't know about Etsy when I was planning my wedding.

Do you like to support local business instead of large companies?

    -- Yes

When buying something for a special occasion what kind of item do you go for?

-- normally a new dress, shoes and bag.

  5. When buying something for a special occasion would you rather buy something handmade? If so would you pay a little extra for something unique?

    - I'd say it depends on the special occasion, but maybe, and if I'm going for something handmade, it being unique is part of the pull.

Your wedding is one of the biggest days of you life! Would this be an occasion where you would seek out something individual? Would you again pay extra?

    - It depends on what item would be individual. It would be lovely to have a personalized wedding dress without it being exorbitantly priced. I have always wanted something a bit 'different' for my ideal wedding dress.

Would you prefer to wear something in you hair that you could wear after your wedding? Or would you like to wear a traditional veil?

    - This may appear to stand somewhat in contrast to my answer above, but I do want a veil. I just think the process of raising the veil is symbolic in a meaningful way to me. That said, I think I want a Celtic styled wedding dress and Medieval veil, so I could certainly use it as part of a costume later. :)

Are you concerned with trends or do you like classic design?

    - Varies. Mostly classic design.

Would you look for something on the high street or on an online market like Etsy?

    - Etsy has more of an interesting, eclectic variety. I have a pretty good idea of what I can find at a typical brick and mortar retailer, so I'm more interested in perusing Etsy shops.

Do you like to support local business instead of large companies?

    - Of course.

When buying something for a special occasion what kind of item do you go for?

    - Something that feels unique and personal, especially for gifting.
